OrientDB: Graphs in the database instead of nodes in the header

Come see Jochen Binder speak at JUG Saxony
“Often, technical requirements are very complex. It is possible that the related data are also strongly interrelated, that one does not get any further with a relational database or a Documentstore. The use of a graphical database often helps. Suddenly the knot in the head loosens and the application is then solved quite simply. This is how I devised the implementation of a product configurator. Using this practical example, the solution is presented using the OrientDB graph database. OrientDB is a free Opensource graphical database (Apache 2 license) and thus a very interesting alternative to neo4j, which causes license costs for commercial use. It can be used in in-memory operation, Standalone or even in cluster mode, and is therefore also ideally suited for use within a SpringBoot application without additional administration. In a brief introduction to the graph world and the OrientDB tooling the in-memory variant is presented. The Java API and the graph query language Apache Gremlin are used for live coding. This talk is to encourage the use of the technology, which can be learned very quickly – maybe the one or the other node will dissolve a bit faster in the head. The Java API and the graph query language Apache Gremlin are used for live coding. This talk is to encourage the use of the technology, which can be learned very quickly – maybe the one or the other node will dissolve a bit faster in the head. The Java API and the graph query language Apache Gremlin are used for live coding. This talk is to encourage the use of the technology, which can be learned very quickly – maybe the one or the other node will dissolve a bit faster in the head.”
