There is an army of more than 70 Committers and 1000’s of Contributors behind the OrientDB open source project, all managed by Orient Technologies, LTD. The Leadership Team below is a dedicated group consisting of experienced executives and highly skilled engineers.
Luca is the original author of the OrientDB product and the main committer. He started working with storage algorithms in 1998 and created the first production-ready version of OrientDB in early 2010 after 17 years of experience working with other DBMSs. In order to handle indexes in the most efficient way, Luca created the new MVRB-Tree algorithm (it was originally referred to as the RB+Tree but another different algorithm already exists with that name) as a mix of the Red-Black Tree and B+Tree algorithms. MVRB stands for Multi Value Red Black because it stores multiple values in each tree node instead of just one. MVRB-Tree consumes less than half the memory of the RB-Tree implementation, maintains the original speed when balancing the tree on insertion/update, all while allowing fast retrieval and storage of nodes in persistent mode. Luca is a member of the Sun Microsystems JDO 1.0 and 2.0 Expert Groups that wrote the JDO standard. He has also published various tech articles in Technet, Computer Programming, IoProgrammer, and Week.it magazines.
A software executive with 16 years of experience, Luca has been working with some of the world’s most successful database companies including MySQL, Oracle and MongoDB. At OrientDB, he will be tasked to further accelerate company and community growth. Prior to joining Orient Technologies, Luca was at MongoDB, a fast growing database vendor, where he built and grew tenfold the international ecosystem. Previously, he led the MySQL Sales Consulting team at Oracle and joined the company via the Sun Microsystems and MySQL acquisition. Before this, he ran the Business Development and Strategy team for a Systems Integrator.
OrientDB Contributor since 2011 and Committer since 2012, Andrey designed the new PLOCAL storage engine, SB-Tree and Hash-Tree indexes. He now leads Research & Development.
OrientDB Contributor since 2013 and Committer since 2014, Enrico leads the development teams behind OrientDB Studio, OrientDB Enterprise Edition and the OrientDB-Lucene plugin.
Emanuele started to contribute to the OrientDB project in 2010 with the implementation of orientdb-c, the first C language driver. Now he manages the protocol and driver development team.
